Year 4 - Music: Major and Minor

This week in Year 4, the children learned about major chords and minor chords, that major scale sounds happy and the minor scale sounds sad. They learned to play ‘Happy Birthday’ in both scales on a keyboard so that they could hear the difference.

Year 3- Class worship delivered by members of the 'WOW' group

Lucy, Grace and Ruby did a wonderful job delivering our class worship today. Year 3 learnt about the new study published in an archaeological journal, using evidence found in Italy, which found that Neanderthals organised their living areas and tools similarly to modern humans. The class discussed how the events and people in our past have shaped who we are. Lucy ended the worship by thanking God for all the people who have shaped and influenced the world we live in today.

Year 3 - Science- Investigating how friction can be decreased or increased.

This afternoon in Science, Year 3 conducted a "ramp investigation" to explore how objects move on different sloping surfaces, considering friction. They made a small ramp using a piece of wood. Then, they placed a car on top of the ramp and observed how it moved down without being pushed. The children experimented by laying different materials on the ramp, such as fabric, tin foil, and plastic, to see how they affected the car's movement and friction. They made systematic and careful observations, and where appropriate, took accurate measurements using standard units.

Reception - Counting sets and Cardinality

Reception have been looking at Cardinality - counting the number of objects in a large set. They have been thinking carefully about ‘counting rules’ to help them to count accurately, such as counting one at a time, saying numbers in the right order, moving objects into a line and saying the stopping number.

DPSSA Netball League

No team photo because we got carried away and were so focused on the task in hand, so a pile of bibs and ball with impressive wins on show. The children worked really well to develop their game play today. Our shooters were on point and we played across the whole of the court. Two games and two spectacular wins for Team B again! Super proud of you all.

WOW leading Class Worship in Year 4

The WOW group led our Class Worship this morning and Year 4 really enjoyed taking an active role alongside them. The children posed various questions and asked how the past has helped us learn new things for the future and how we may have experienced life changing events. The children shared some really heart warming experiences and we closed the worship with some beautiful prayers.

Year 1 Class Worship

Today in class worship, Year 1 explored the question, ‘How are you the same as and different to your friends?’ First of all, the children spoke to a partner and had to tell them something that they like, have or enjoy doing and ask them whether they liked, had or enjoyed doing it too e.g. I have a brother, do you? I enjoy playing football, do you? Or I like to eat pizza, do you? After this discussion, the children had to feedback to the whole class on similarities and differences that they had found. Following on from this, we discussed how we realise that we are all similar in a lot of ways but also very different. The children then completed an activity in pairs where they had to explore colouring 6 trainers in different ways but using the same 3 colours. This highlighted exactly what we had just been talking about. To end our lesson, we touched on the second question which was, ‘How can shops make sure everyone feels represented?’ We talked about how this is important to make everyone feel included despite our differences. The children came up with some wonderful suggestions such as making mannequins have different skin tones, disabilities such as prosthetic legs, being in a wheelchair or missing a limb and displaying mannequins of different heights and sizes. Well done Year 1.

Year 3- English- David Attenborough- Use nouns and pronouns appropriately to avoid repetition.

This afternoon, Year 3 explored the fascinating journey of David Attenborough's life. They discovered details about his early years and education, then wrote a brief paragraph, ensuring they used nouns and pronouns to prevent repetition. They also learned that Sir David is celebrating his 98th birthday today, so they wanted to extend warm wishes for a fantastic day and many more years of greatness to come.

Year 3- Class Meeting-What school trips would you like to go on in future?

Miles took the role of a leader and Sonny took notes during our school council class meeting today. We discussed our last action about how to promote reading, and the most popular vote was to revisit Darwen Library. This week, the communication team wants to know ' What school trips would you like to go on in future?' The four choices were: Theme Park, Beach Visit, Museum/Art Gallery, or Football Match. Year 3 voted for a beach trip as their favourite option.

This week in computing the children created digital images to show emotions. This involved designing their own emojis and adding various objects that can make them feel a certain way. For example we had an amazed face with fireworks in the background. The children really enjoyed making their own emoji.

This week, Year 5 began to practice their keyboard skills, learning a variety chords and began to work through the chord progression. The children put chords together to create a piece of music.
